This is such an historic project that the whole of France is mobilising to make it a complete success. And for Scieries Réunies du Chalonnais in Givry, the opportunity was just too good to bring together all those involved in this great adventure.

Marion and Grégoire Juillot, who have taken the reins of the family venture, displayed smiles alongside their 70 employees this Friday morning. A moment of exchange and conviviality around the “Notre Dame de Paris” project, “to mark the occasion around the forest and wood professions,” shared Grégoire Juillot, in the presence of several mayors including those from Givry, Ouroux sur Saône, Saint Germain du Bois, or Saint-Désert. Christian Guigue, mayor of Saint-Germain du Bois, and Jean-Michel Desmard, mayor of Ouroux sur Saône, emphasized their contributions through the donation of several trees that will be used for the future structure of Notre Dame.

At Scierie Réunie du Chalonnais, 21 oak logs were harvested in the communal forests of Chalonnais during the months of September and October. This indicates that the sawing operation to which local elected officials were invited had a symbolic value. From there, it will still take about a year before the delivery to the carpenters is completed.

As a reminder, the reconstruction of the Notre Dame framework involves around 2000 oaks harvested from across France, through initiatives similar to that of Chalonnais.
